Chapter 8 in Get Better at Flatter, 2022, pp 121-134 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter shows that flat structures, irrespective of their precise nature and the type of staff operating within them, reach natural limits when scaling. Blending in-depth scientific insights on information aggregation within groups with and anecdotal evidence from the corporate world, it provides a sense of what seems possible, and where flat structures hit the ceiling. It also discusses implications for the adoption of atypical hierarchies within organizations.
