Chapter Chapter 4 in Post-Heroic Leadership, 2022, pp 113-121 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Becoming a leader often means transitioning from the field of expertise into the field of the (relative) unknown. Just like being an expert, leadership is a profession requiring constant competence development. Organizations aiming to choose and develop post-heroic leaders focus on (1) choosing the right people for the job, (2) developing dimensions of servant leadership: humility, empowerment, authenticity, interpersonal acceptance, providing direction, and stewardship; and (3) encouraging sharedness: social support, voice, and shared purpose. Followers’ implicit leadership theories need to change from heroic towards post-heroic.
