Chapter Chapter 5 in Financial Vulnerability in Canada, 2022, pp 93-117 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter examines various statistical portraits of financial vulnerability in Canada. It considers the indebtedness of Canadians and argues that the common research and policy focus on mortgage and other conventional debt overlooks important dimensions of financial vulnerability experienced by low- and modest-income Canadians. The chapter explores these dimensions in more detail, as far as the current data permit, and demonstrates the potential of these broader indicators to offer a robust understanding of financial vulnerability, more so than simply conventional measures of over-indebtedness.
