Chapter 4 in Design Thinking for New Business Contexts, 2022, pp 53-76 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter provides a detailed account of the external forces that can pose significant threats to the organisation. These range from global pandemics (Covid-19) right through to emergent technological and market transformations; as such, organisations (regardless of size and industry activity) need to be continually vigilant to these dynamic existential forces. It then focuses upon the varying types of organisational structures that shape the culture and ethos of the organisation, from flat non-hierarchical structures to the vertical multi-layered chain of command system. Change is a given in fast moving business contexts, and as such, change management is an approach to afford the organisation, continued vitality and relevance. It concludes by introducing design and design thinking as an alternative approach to fostering and implementing change within the company.
