Chapter Chapter 7 in Policy Responses to the Interwar Economic Crisis, 2022, pp 235-240 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter reflects on some of the main theoretical themes of the book. One recurrent theme is the secular and cyclical nature of economic policy change. The book has provided ample evidence of this duality at both international and national levels. Limits of policy choice constitute another theme. I have conceptualized these limits at two levels: world-historical and national-structural. The third and core explanatory theme is the role of ideas, institutions, and interests in cross-national variation in economic policy. My approach has been that, all things considered, ideas are first among equals.
