Chapter Chapter 5 in Counterexamples in Operator Theory, 2022, pp 59-73 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Let H 1 and H 2 be two Hilbert spaces. The set { ( x 1 , x 2 ) : x 1 ∈ H 1 , x 2 ∈ H 2 } $$\displaystyle \{(x_1,x_2):~x_1\in H_1,~x_2\in H_2\} $$ is denoted by H 1 ⊕ H 2 (or H 1 × H 2), and it is called the direct sum of H 1 and H 2.
