Abstract: Abstract Over the past decade, the overall consumption of energy has increased significantly. There are several factors responsible for the rise in the consumption of energy such as breakthrough inventions in semiconductors which led to more complicated motherboards for all devices such as air conditioners, personal computers, televisions, etc. Therefore, on the other side, the gradual rise in research and development of solar cells had provided a breakthrough in generation of electricity which can be used to offset the peak load, trade the excess generated energy to the main grid, etc. Combination of renewable energy sources to the smart grid provided a great leap ahead for efficient distribution of generated energy to load available locally or export it to the nearby load. Therefore, the need for perfect communication between all the components in a smart grid is crucial. This chapter provides an insight on these aspects with a case study.
