Abstract:
Abstract The energy and utility industry has a significant need for efficient and resilient material supply networks in today’s competitive markets and volatile business environment. We identify three unique features and challenges in managing a utility company’s material supply network: contracting and business rules, rising and varying demands, and supply disruption risks. Mathematical programming based optimization models are presented to address them. A case study at a Fortune 500 utility company is presented to showcase the application of an integrated location-inventory optimization model and its capability for data-drive decision-support. Future research opportunities are discussed.
