A chapter in Handbook of Smart Energy Systems, 2023, pp 3339-3354 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The present study reviewed important optimization methods used in renewable energy sources. It represented the future of heuristics and metaheuristic methods. However, classical methods were also developed simultaneously. The performance of renewable resources was examined over a period of time using a quasi-dynamic simulation to determine the possible effects of changing the active load, varying the output power of power generation sources, and unplanned outages on operation indicators. If the network is not in an optimal condition after the quasi-dynamic simulation, more attempts should be made to install renewable resources. The present study made a comprehensive evaluation of a network in eastern Iran. This real network was explored with and without renewable resources based on three scenarios: low, baseline, and high loads. According to the results, these sources are useful from different aspects, including bus voltage, loss, and short circuits. They can create transient stability and power quality risks, but it is important to take precautions to prevent them.
