Chapter Chapter 10 in Electricity Distribution Networks in the Decentralisation Era, 2022, pp 133-138 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The rise of renewable energy resources and decentralisation paradigm have important implications for economics, regulation, and operation of electricity distribution networks. There is a need for new models of coordination and operation of DERs. Also, the way in which existing network capacity is allocated, and future capacity is funded need to adapt to an environment where there are flexible demand, variable generation, and users who are both producers and consumers of electricity. The concept of unbundling at distribution grid level needs to be revisited and, finally, new regulatory approaches are required to incentivise distribution network utilities to innovate and create value for consumers and society.
