Chapter Chapter 4 in More Judgment Than Data, 2022, pp 47-61 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Pernicious consequences may occur if more data is publicly available. When individuals become fixated on certain values in public data, they may lose sight of the bigger picture or objective. They may also become aware of their own inability to achieve their goal and then quit the activities in which they are currently engaged. In this chapter, situations are explored in which individuals take actions unintentionally, and sometimes deliberately, that undermine particular objectives. Awareness of this kind of behavior may guide data publishers on the amount and frequency of data releases.
