Chapter Chapter 8 in More Judgment Than Data, 2022, pp 105-117 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Data created from human behavior is often in response to incentives. Identifying and interpreting the theories behind these incentives is a critical element of good judgment in decision-making. Theories are models that represent the underlying reality of how the world works. They not only help us interpret and extract meaning from data, but they can also help us know if something has gone wrong with the data. A proper theory also informs the decision about which data should be analyzed and which data should be ignored.
