Abstract: Abstract Leonhard Euler (1707–83) dominated mathematics during the eighteenth century. The royal homes of this enduring absolute sovereign of mathematics were the scientific Academy in St. Petersburg (the new capital of the newly restructured Russian state)—from 1731 till 1741 and again from 1766—and in between, the Berlin Academy. (It had been Leibniz’ suggestion to cover Europe with a network of scientific academies.) Euler never gave a lecture at university.
