Abstract: Abstract Aaron Director is recognised as the founder of a dominant school of jurisprudence, Chicago law and economics, a pioneer in reorienting antitrust policy along free market lines, and a leader in establishing the post-war Chicago School. Through his work at the University of Chicago Law School, Director had a profound influence on colleagues of his own generation, such as Edward Levi, Paul Samuelson, and George Stigler, and on later luminaries, such as Richard Posner, Ward Bowman, John McGee, and Robert Bork. Director’s work is best understood when seen in the light of his early years, especially those at Yale University in the 1920s. At Chicago, Director developed and reinforced in his students and those he mentored an empowering state of mind. He inspired those he taught and changed minds by washing pre-existing antitrust doctrine in cynical acid.
