Islam and Iranian Capital Markets: A New Approach?
James Simon Watkins ()
Chapter Chapter 13 in Religion and the Global Money Markets, 2022, pp 349-374 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract If Iran ever leaves the diplomatic deep freeze which has led to the country facing debilitating sanctions, the global impact of the country in terms of the Islamic finance market could be very significant. Iran officially has an Islamic banking and finance system where conventional interest-bearing banking is prohibited. At the same time, Iran does not have the same Islamic finance system as exists in the rest of the world. This is because the Iranian form of Islamic finance has been informed by Shia Islamic belief compared to Sunni Islamic thought as reflected in the workings of the global Islamic finance industry.
