Judaism: Ethical Finance and the Israeli Economy

James Simon Watkins ()

Chapter Chapter 9 in Religion and the Global Money Markets, 2022, pp 263-280 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The co-operative kibbutzkibbutz movement in contemporary IsraelIsrael is linked to Judaism but is not an intrinsic part of religious thought. Instead, the demand for a socialist economy to be established in IsraelIsrael, with the kibbutzkibbutz as an essential by-product of this demand, emerged as a consequence of identity politics and a reaction against the capitalism as witnessed in the nineteenth century as well as the first half of the twentieth century. In the meantime, Jewish faith-based finance was demonstrated via a form of finance known as impact investments.
