Chapter Chapter 3 in Introduction to Mathematics for Economics with R, 2022, pp 243-349 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter starts by reviewing the concept of functions of one variable (Sect. 3.1). Then, we discuss the main functions such as linear (Sect. 3.2), quadratic (Sect. 3.3), cubic (Sect. 3.4), logarithmic and exponential (Sect. 3.6), radical (Sect. 3.7), and rational (Sect. 3.8). Examples of applications in Economics include: the cost function, production function with a single input, and indifference curves. Examples of functions coded from scratch include: a function to compute the slope of a linear function, functions to solve quadratic and cubic equations.
