Chapter Chapter 4 in Introduction to Mathematics for Economics with R, 2022, pp 351-439 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract We start the chapter by introducing the meaning of the derivatives (Sect. 4.1). However, before continuing the discussion on the derivatives, we take a step back and discuss the concept of the limit of a function (Sect. 4.2). Then, we will learn the rules of differentiation (Sect. 4.6) and the concepts of points of minimum, maximum and inflection associated with functions (Sect. 4.9). Additional topics are the Taylor expansion (Sect. 4.10) and the L’Hôpital theorem (Sect.4.11). Examples of applications in Economics include: marginal cost and average cost, profit maximization, and elasticity. Examples of functions coded from scratch include: a function to compute the limit, a function to compute the derivative, a function to implement the Newton-Raphson method.
