Chapter Chapter 5 in Introduction to Mathematics for Economics with R, 2022, pp 441-484 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter we cover integral calculus. First, we will study indefinite integrals and the anti-derivative process (Sect. 5.1). We will cover fundamental integrals (Sect. 5.1.1.1), integration by substitution (Sect. 5.1.1.2), integration by parts (Sect. 5.1.1.3), and partial fractions (Sect. 5.1.1.4). Second, we will study definite integrals with examples of calculation of areas under a curve and between two lines (Sect. 5.2). Finally, we will cover the topic of improper integrals and the case of convergence and divergence (Sect. 5.4). Examples of applications in Economics include: marginal cost and total cost, the surplus of consumer and producer. Examples of functions coded from scratch include a function to compute the area under a curve. The replication is left as exercise.
