Chapter Chapter 6 in Integral Methods in Science and Engineering, 2022, pp 85-94 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In the present contribution, we discuss a pollution dispersion model in three dimensions which takes into account effects due to meandering. To this end, scenarios with wind speeds below 2 m/s are considered, and in the lateral dispersion of the plume the effect of meandering is included by means of a stochastic process. The proposed model contemplates turbulent diffusive parameters for the three spatial dimensions, and the effect of meandering in the wind field is taken care of upon inserting fluctuations in the longitudinal and transverse wind speeds, respectively. The model was validated against the data from the INEL experiment for which wind speeds were below 1 m/s. Moreover, the specification for meandering was also extracted from these datasets. Simulated values for the concentrations were in fairly good agreement with the observed data from experiment, which in turn qualifies the present model as a tool for applications by regulatory authorities.
