Chapter Chapter 10 in Analysis and Quantum Groups, 2022, pp 279-333 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter, dealing with modular theory for (operator valued) weights, is particularly important for the second half of the book, where we study quantum groups and their various crossed products. It is also fundamental for to the finer understanding of operator algebras. Modular theory was discovered in the 1960s. One then revealed hidden dynamics on C∗-algebras entirely due to the non-commutativity of the algebras. This manifested itself through the ∗-operation, which in the non-commutative case is of course antimultiplicative but never multiplicative.
