Chapter Chapter 3 in Analysis and Quantum Groups, 2022, pp 73-94 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract A satisfactory account of functional analysis cannot be given without discussing some of the outcome of the Polish school centered around S. Banach. This community, which flourished between WWI and WWII, was sadly wiped out by the Nazis. A fundamental question in Banach space theory is whether two Banach spaces are isomorphic or not, or at least if one is isomorphic to a (complemented) subspace of the other. The Polish school understood that such questions, or even the desire to understand the differences or similarities between two spaces, can be effectively approached studying various bases in the them.
