Chapter 2 in In Good Conscience, 2022, pp 11-26 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Before we can discuss conscience, we need to understand what it is. Here we draw on the work of Immanuel Kant and Adam Smith to explore ideas of conscience and how it can help us make the right choices and to act with moral commitment. However, can such ideas be applied to organizations? Our research confirms that most people believe organizations can have a conscience: they can act intentionally. By becoming aware of their conscience, companies can use it as a guide for the strategic decisions they make that impact consumers, employees, investors and citizens.
