Chapter Chapter 1 in The Theory of the Jahn-Teller Effect, 2022, pp 3-13 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The starting point is the molecular view of the Jahn–Teller theorem. The theorem is applied to the shape of transition-metal ions in a crystal field environment, and the validity of density arguments to rationalize the observed trends is examined. The chapter identifies the challenges that are associated with the traditional interpretation, and which will determine the scope of the book.
