Chapter Chapter 1 in Whiteness and Stigma in the Workplace, 2022, pp 1-27 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The aim of this chapter is to sketch the focus of the research, arguing that studies of professional closure are insufficient to account for the lack of integration by professionals of colour into professions dominated by White privilege. It provides a context for the chapters that follow by briefly summarising the history of South Africa with regard to racial discrimination, highlighting the role that both colonisation and apartheid played. In particular, it outlines key apartheid legislation to demonstrate the extent of racism and discrimination.
