Abstract: Abstract Barbie has held a variety of roles, including sign language teacher, yogi, Chancellor of Germany, a US Air Force Thunderbirds pilot, Canadian Mountie, UN ambassador, bee-keeper, and multi-discipline Olympic medal-winner. But she has never been an actuary. While Barbie inspires children to dream of pursuing a multitude of important and interesting careers, the first time most people learn of actuaries’ existence is when they receive a statement about their pension. Hopefully, this book has revealed the mysterious art of actuarial science. You might even have found the previous chapters interesting, and want to learn more about becoming an actuary yourself. As Barbie has so far neglected this task, this chapter will answer some common questions about careers in actuarial work. If this is of no interest to you, then please feel free to skip over this chapter, or read it to affirm your own choice.
