Chapter Chapter 1 in Digital and Sustainable Transformations in a Post-COVID World, 2023, pp 3-41 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The World survives the coronavirus pandemic by intensifying virtual living and a renewed environmental awareness. The health crisis unleashed by the pandemic has accelerated the need for a dual digital and sustainable transformation. This chapter reviews the recent literature devoted to the ongoing dual transformation. First, it describes how its manifestations are structured and what is being achieved. Second, it develops research insights, trends, and topics. It examines the literature on Digital and Sustainable Transformation from 2018 through the first part of 2021 and compares it to the most recent works. A search in the academic database Scopus showed 75 relevant references. While the digital transformation component is closely related to Industry 4.0, Digitalization, and innovation, the sustainability component is associated with innovation, Industry 4.0, and smart cities. An exploratory and descriptive analysis will shed light on how this dual transformation trajectory is emerging and converging to give way to a new post-pandemic world.
