Jesús Huerta de Soto: A Biographical Sketch

A chapter in The Emergence of a Tradition: Essays in Honor of Jesús Huerta de Soto, Volume I, 2023, pp 1-13 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract It is well known that Jesús Huerta de Soto Ballester was an early member of the Reig seminars on liberalism in Madrid. Less well known are other facts concerning his early life. This chapter draws attention to some of these facts, especially the role that his father, Jesús Huerta Ballester, played in his early intellectual development. A series of serendipitous events created a trajectory that was different from the one the young Huerta de Soto inherited at birth. Despite facing challenges from supposed friend and foe alike, Huerta de Soto was able to establish a thriving graduate program in economics. Along the way he also fostered a specific tradition in economics, based on and modeled after his own approach to conceiving and solving economic problems.
