Chapter Chapter 17 in The Transformation of Georgia from 2004 to 2012, 2023, pp 145-160 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter explains the link between territorial development, urbanization and growth. It discusses Georgia’s economic geography after the Soviet break-up. It explains principles behind Georgia’s territorial development and urbanization from 2004: (1) predictability, adaptability and boldness, (2) livability of Tbilisi through harnessing its uniqueness, creating landmarks and addressing over-congestion, (3) mitigation of Tbilisi’s over-dominance through development of other cities and regions, and (4) coastal development.
