Chapter 1 in Value Creation for Owners and Directors, 2023, pp 1-18 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter presents different ownership types and illustrates the main characteristics of how ownership is exercised. We qualify ownership types according to the other roles owners might also assume: founder, Chair, CEO/General Manager, board director, shareholder, or a combination of these. This categorization distinguishes ours from more usual explanations based on ownership structures and looking at ownership mostly as exerting “control” over a business. This classification allows for a clearer discussion of the interaction between ownership and governance. It is an important first step in providing the context for all three parts of this book.
