Abstract: Abstract This chapter presents and discusses the design of a course on Civic Statistics for pre-service mathematics teachers in their teacher education program. We developed this course because there is a need for all citizens of a modern country to understand data-based conclusions in the context of Civic Statistics. Suggestions for organizing a whole course and individual Civic Statistics activities are presented. At the beginning of such a course, the participants can be confronted with a first example of Civic Statistics and then, as though taking a step back, the participants’ statistical knowledge can be refreshed in several sessions in order to carry out further Civic Statistics activities. A structure for Civic Statistics activities is presented on the one hand to introduce a design for implementing Civic Statistics content in classes following the principles of the Statistical Reasoning Learning Environment, and on the other for understanding the example lesson plans that can be found at CivicStatMap. We provide detailed examples of Civic Statistics activities organized both in short mini-projectsMini-projects and in a longer projectProject. Teaching a course on Civic Statistics offers great potential for linking statistics contents with real and multivariate data in a wide range of academic disciplines. Specific learning goals for teaching Civic Statistics are also discussed.
