Abstract: Abstract This chapter aims to define the different conceptions regarding the nature of epistemology and, ultimately, to determine the relative weight of internal and external history in these different approaches. This leads us to elaborate a reflection on the nature of scientific explanation, the relationships between subject and object, and the Historicity or universality of Science; this also leads us to question the concept of scientific progress, at least with regard to Economics. After having defined the concept of episteme, as well as the different epistemes that characterize the different epistemological temporalities, in the context of a comparison with Kuhn and Lakatos, I will emphasize the explanatory value of this concept and its limits.
