Hayek and Neoclassic Economics: Some Dangerous Liaisons?
Alain Herscovici ()
Chapter Chapter 6 in Value, Historicity, and Economic Epistemology, 2023, pp 137-162 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter aims to analyze the epistemological nature of the rupture between Neoclassical Economics and Hayek. For such purpose, in the first moment, I will study the epistemological choices made by Hayek, within the scope of the dialogue he maintained with Popper. In the second moment, I will study the modus operandi from which Hayek deduces his main results; this should allow defining and characterizing the nature of the epistemological rupture represented by the framework elaborated by Hayek, in relation to the Neoclassical Economics. It will thus be possible to evaluate the commensurability, or the incommensurability, of these two paradigms.
