Chapter Chapter 4 in Discrete Mathematics with Graph Theory, 2023, pp 181-235 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Karl Friedrich Gauss was a son of a laborer born in Brunswick, Germany. At the age of 3, he detected an error in his father’s bookkeeping. The Duke of Brunswick, recognized his remarkable talent and sponsored his education. Gauss received his doctorate in 1799 from the university of Helmstedt. In his doctoral thesis, he gave the first rigorous proof of the Fundamental theorem of Algebra, which states ‘‘Any polynomial of degree n (≥ 1) with real coefficients has at least one zero’’. Although Newton and Euler, among the other brillient minds, had attempted to prove it, but faild. Gauss made significant contributions to algbera, number theory, geometry, analysis, physics and astronomy. His work Disquisitiones Arithmeticae of 1801 laid the foundation of modern number theory. In 1807 Gauss joind University of Göttingen as a professor, director of the observatory and served till death. He was called as the ‘‘prince of mathematics’’ by his contemporary mathematicians. He made the famous statement ‘‘Mathematics is the queen of sciences and the theory of numbers the queen of mathematics.’’ The Mathematics community will be indebtable for his services
