Chapter Chapter 1 in Advanced Mathematics for Engineers and Physicists, 2022, pp 1-43 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In the first chapter we introduce the notion of differential equation, focusing on first-order ordinary differential equations. We show by several examples how differential equations can describe (model) physical phenomena in mathematical terms. The most common types of first-order differential equations are presented, together with the techniques for obtaining their solutions (either in implicit or explicit form). The last section is dedicated to the Theorem of existence and uniqueness of the solution of the Cauchy problem for first-order differential equations.
