Chapter Chapter 2 in Redecentralisation, 2023, pp 15-38 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter focuses on the namesake of this book, redecentralisation. It unpacks the concept of redecentralisation, which is to go back to decentralisation by first setting out a broad view of history as being a cycle between centralisation and decentralisation. It also provides a qualitative framework for understanding decentralisation through seven primary dimensions that can be applied to technical, social, economic and political systems. We end this chapter by setting out six benefits that decentralisation has the potential to bring with it to address the current trust crisis unfolding in front of us.
