Chapter Chapter 5 in Redecentralisation, 2023, pp 103-136 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, we cover the next step in the evolution of money and payments by uncovering more recent phenomena of central bank digital currencies which are taking the world by storm. We provide questions that practitioners should use when thinking through how and why to implement such a system and cover the ways in which it this could be changing the payment landscape as a whole. We also highlight that this development stage of money and payments as part of a digital financial ecosystem carries with it several risks but also opportunities if designed with the user at the centre of the system.
