Chapter Chapter 8 in Redecentralisation, 2023, pp 179-211 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter discusses several up-and-coming areas of so-called decentralisation in the digital technology arena and financial sector. This includes amongst others Web3 and NFT’s, the Metaverse, Smart Data and Open Banking. Ultimately, and whilst exciting, it remains to be seen what benefits some of these new areas will bring, or whether they will create more risks and costs or a new centralisation of their own. We end this chapter by providing eight core desiderata for a new digital social contract that future solutions should incorporate as a way to escape both centralisation and decentralisation at their extremes.
