Abstract: Abstract This book chapter looks at the practice dimension of networks: network ties are based on exchanges and activities that, if repeated with a certain regularity over time, take the form of routines. With this understanding, this chapter adopts the Routine Dynamics perspective to elaborate on network dynamics and more precisely to reflect on two crucial aspects that concern the evolution of ties over time: how the status of ties changes and how ties are maintained as they are over time. So doing, this chapter addresses a central debate in network research—that is agency—and lays the ground for future research that could investigate more the in-practice dimension of network evolution.
