Abstract:
Abstract George Pölya was born on December 13, 1887 at Budapestm Austria Hungary. He became a professor of mathematics in 1914 at ETH Zurich in Suritzerland and worked up to 1940. Later on he shifted to Stanford University and worked upto 1953. He remained stanford professor Emeritus for the rest of his life and career. He worked on a range of mathematical topics, including series, number theory, mathematical analysis, geometry, algebra, combinatorics and probability theory. He is known for multivariate Pölya distribution, Pölya conjucture, Pölya enumeration theorem, Landau-Kolmogorov inequality, Pölya-Vinogradov inequality, Pölya ineqality, Pölya aeppli distribution and Pölya urn model. He died in Polo Alto, California (USA) on Setember 7, 1985 (aged 97).
