Chapter Chapter 5 in Law and Economic Development, 2023, pp 93-129 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This paper reviews some of the recent literature on behavioural factors that affect corruption. We provide a unifying framework in which to organise and interpret the main results in the literature. We discuss how norms and social preferences affect levels of intrinsic honesty, how image consciousness is related to corruption, the trade-offs between ability and integrity in public service and finally the literature on policy interventions to exploit intrinsic honesty.
