Abstract: Abstract Purpose: Finding out in depth the problems being faced by HEIs in the Tanzanian context on Academic Information Systems (AISs) adoption in their daily activities. Design/Methodology/Approach: Qualitative methods were used to explore the information from the users whereby interviews and observations were used to get the information. The analysis of the collected data was done thematically whereby five themes were obtained. Findings: Based on the obtained themes, the findings show that poor system functionalities, poor user support, lack of enough training, lack of experts and poor systems security are the main challenges faced in using the implemented AISs in Tanzanian HEIs context. The causes of the problems are also highlighted, and some improvement measures have been proposed. Research Limitation/ Implications: This study involved only one Tanzanian HEI and involved only one AIS therefore more studies are invited to improve the findings for generalization. Practical Implications: The findings of this study are important to the Tanzanian HEIs management to think about revising their ICT policies and their budget for information systems projects to overcome the highlighted challenges for better outcomes for their continuous development. Originality/Value: Due to the fast-growing technology, frequent research is inevitable and assessment of technology challenges in developing countries is crucial. This study, therefore, contributes to the body of knowledge of some common challenges encountered by HEIs in the Tanzanian context on the implementation of AISs. Based on the highlighted challenges, the study also found that trust affects the success of AISs implemented in the Tanzanian HEIs context.
