Abstract: Abstract This chapter aims to review new technologies under development in the shipping industry. It first presents the features and functions of emergent technologies, including big data, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain. Then, the application of these technologies in the shipping industry is detailed in three major aspects, namely shipping service, ship operations, and port operations and development. Finally, this chapter will discuss the future opportunities and challenges for technological evolution, and provide recommendations for the implementation of future new technologies in the shipping industry.
