Chapter Chapter 20 in Shipping and Logistics Management, 2023, pp 309-320 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Shipping facilitates global trade activities by enabling physical cargo movements to complete economic transactions between the involved parties. As the international economic and political environments become more volatile, different risk factors can disrupt cargo movements in the shipping processes. Risk management is an important shipping issue as occurrences of unexpected incidents can lead to various consequences such as freight delays, cargo damages, customer complaints, and loss of corporate reputation. This chapter explains the risk concept and risk classification and introduces risk management approaches for mitigating risk factors.
