A smart University 5.0Smart university 5.0 mustUniversity 5.0 understand and update the situation inside and outside its boundaries, with a broad perspective of intra-organizational and inter-organizational cooperation. We therefore concentrate on theoretical views and considerations with some practical implicationsImplications of the aforementioned researchResearch concepts and their potential to build a new system of innovationInnovation that promotes in a systemic way the open, “glocalGlocal”, socialSocial and digitalDigital social innovationsSocial innovation for the benefit of people with a key role of scienceScience and its social and societal impact. In a single universityUniversity perspective, a micro level would concern the optimization of researchResearch and innovationInnovation processesInnovation processes. At a meso level, we can assume an analysis of the innovationInnovation ecosystemEcosystem in which the universityUniversity is located, also including the territorial peculiarities within which cooperative synergies would be developed. Lastly, a macro analysis (completely external agents, such as political, economic, demographic, sociocultural conditions, legalLegal aspects, technology, etc.) can be implemented to support innovationInnovation growth based on new routes of a universityUniversity fully declined? In terms of 5.0 version (Carayannis et al. in J Knowl Econ 13:2272–2301, 2022). This multi-level path is still very relevant to the condition of industry 4.0Industry 4.0 towards Industry 5.0Industry 5.0/Society 5.0Society 5.0.
