Banks at the Heart of Conflicts of Interest
Georges Ugeux
A chapter in Wall Street’s Assault on Democracy, 2023, pp 69-72 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Banks are everywhere and intervene in several capacities. Commercial banks and asset managers operate on the debt market and are borrowers. They operate in the equity market as market makers as well as brokers. They invest in bonds and advise issuers. In short, they are a nexus of conflicts of interest that has grown since the investment banks were taken over by the commercial banks.
