Central Banks to the Rescue of Financial Markets and Borrowers
Georges Ugeux
A chapter in Wall Street’s Assault on Democracy, 2023, pp 81-87 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Before opening this chapter, I would like to clarify a few points. Central banks are often caught between a rock and a hard place. In most cases, they have to integrate the difficult indebtedness of their governments. This is not only true in emerging markets—the dramatic explosion of sovereign debt has made central banks the largest individual owners of their countries’ sovereign debt.
