Chapter Chapter 29 in Libertarian Autobiographies, 2023, pp 167-178 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter contains vignettes of my life among the “econ,” related species, and assorted dramatis personae—including Friedrich Hayek, Ludwig Lachmann, Israel Kirzner, Felix Somary, Ludwig von Mises, Milton Friedman, Fred Glahe, Armen Alchian, James Buchanan, Ronald Coase, Warren Nutter, Gordon Tullock, Leland Yeager, Alan Walters, Robert Mundell, William Niskanen, Gottfried von Haberler, Harry Langenberg, Albert Friedberg, Heinz Schimmelbusch, and M.A. Adelman. I have lived three lives. One is in the world of trading. Another is my academic life, where I have been a professor at the Colorado School of Mines, the University of California Berkeley, and The Johns Hopkins University. There’s also the world of political economy, where I have been an advisor to many governments and heads of state. These three threads are woven together to shed some light on how I have become a classical liberal.
