Chapter Chapter 44 in Libertarian Autobiographies, 2023, pp 257-260 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract I was a witness of some important historical events. I was invited to work on Gorbachev’s reforms of perestroika. It was clear to me that the Communist system was a criminal regime of public slavery and I witnessed its unavoidable demise. I worked as a Chief Consultant of the Bank for Foreign Trade and taught at numerous institutions of higher learning. My disappointment in perestroika was responsible for my defection. In the US, I met giants of liberty and was honored to become a Senior Fellow of the Ludwig von Mises Institute. I am also a professor of economics at Carthage College for over thirty years. The lessons to learn from nations enslaved in the Soviet empire and the Austrian school critique of socialism provide us with a clear understanding of the dangers of out-of-control governments pursuing socialist schemes.
