Abstract:
Abstract Ever since my father passed away at age 16, I’ve been an independent thinker. Growing up in Portland, Oregon, I was exposed to many new ways of thinking, and have gradually shifted my views from conservative Republican to independent libertarian. My main focus has been in economics and finance, and have written an investment newsletter since 1980, taught at several major universities, and have authored over two dozen books. My wife and I have lived in the United States, the Bahamas, and England. We have five children and eight grandchildren. I currently hold the Doti-Spogli Chair of Free Enterprise, and teach at Chapman University. My biggest claim to fame is the development of gross output (GO), the “top line” in national income accounting, now adopted by the federal government. In libertarian thought, my wife and I founded FreedomFest in 2007, and are the authors of the pamphlet, “Persuasion vs Force.”
